Clowes Jewellers, a full service jewellery retail store, was established in 1954 in downtown Red Deer by Mr. Jack Clowes. Len Jr. was appointed General Manager and some three years later moved the store location to the Bower Place Shopping Centre. In 1988 Len and Hilly?s son Len Jr. joined the business after receiving a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from the University of Lethbridge. The Nederlof family has operated Clowes Jewellers continuously since that time, first in downtown Red Deer and for the past 15 years in the Bower Place Shopping Centre in South Red Deer. Jack and his wife Dorothy both worked full time in the store, he in the back shop and she managing the sales, and then both retired in 1978 upon selling their business to Len and Hilly Nederlof, also of Red deer. Having learned the watch making trade after his release from the Canadian Forces at the end of the second world war, and several years of working in that capacity, he started his own shop selling watches, gifts and fine jewellery and repairing both jewellery and watches and clocks. The Nederlof family, gifts, fine jewellery, continue to offer to the public of Central Alberta the finest products available in diamonds, through Clowes Jewellers, time pieces and repairs.
